IEEE INDIA STUDENT INTERNSHIP PREPARATION PROGRAM
“SUCCESS: is the sum of Small Efforts repeated, DAY IN DAY OUT”
So we at IEEE student branch Sathyabama University in collaboration with IEEE Madras section came to the juncture for organising an Internship Preparation Program as a part of IEEE India Strategic Initiative.
This regional level event was meant to bring students in and around the IEEE madras section to encourage students to engage in internships and obtain an industry exposure. Being the host prior to the event a complete week was spend wherein we discussed and planned every minute details for the event,designed and prepared the banners and pamphlets
As the event was scheduled on 17th July, 2015 illuminated by the idea of organising a mass event we flagged of the event in main ac auditorium Sathyabama University. The day started with a warm climate. Around 8:30 am all the registered participants arrived on the campus for IEEE Internship Program. Out of the total registered participants, 116 participants from other colleges had turned up which was quite a impressive number for a one day event. There were many smiling and curious faces to know about the Internship Program. Followed by this the on spot registration were started around 8:30 am in the of A/C auditorium of Sathyabama University. The total collaborated strength stood up to 196 participants.Students those who registered were provided with the kit which consists of a file, notepad and a pen. Students entered the auditorium and were patient to know about the dignitaries.
Guests arrived around 9:15 am and they were welcomed by Dr. G. Sundari, IEEE student branch Councillor, Sathyabama University and Pranjal Dey,Chair of IEEE Student Branch Sathyabama University.
The event was presided by three eminent bench markers,
Dr.Ranganathan Mutthu, Professor in the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering , SSN college of engineering with 22 years of teaching and Industrial Experience the field of Instrumentation, Control and Power Electronics. He had previously worked at the University of Bahrain,Madras Institute of technology ,Anna university and Rourkela Steel Plant.
Elangovan Sankaranarayan, IEEE Madras Section Student Activities Coordinator and the Young Professionals Coordinator with 14 years of teaching experience in various engineering colleges and is currently Head of the Electrical and Electronics Department at Akshaya College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore.
Nivas Ravichandran ,Growth Specialist at Frilip & Electronics Coordination Committee Member for IEEE region 10 and IEEE India Strategic Initiative comittiee .
The program start up was marked by “TAMIL THAIVALTHU”,all students and the guests were raised for the traditional anthem.
& then the guests were called for lightening of the traditional Kuthuvilluku.
It was followed by a praiseworthy citation about the guests from Sindhu and Visakha.
It was further followed up by the welcome address from IEEE Student Branch Coordinator Sathyabama University, Dr. G. Sundari who expressed her indebtedness towards our Directors along with IEEE Madras section for their consent, encouragement, constant support and mentoring for the fruitful and successful conjuncture of this event. She recited a beautiful quote for the participants “If you have willingness to learn no one will stop you and if you are not interested to learn then no one will help you”.
Then she honoured Dr.Ranganath Muthu, Elangovan Sankaranarayanan & Nivas Ravichandran by momentos.
Then Dr. Ranganath Muthu pontificated & enlightened students about the National Skills Foundation of India (NSFI), where many of the unemployed people will be employed. He also told that Indians have many opportunities in abroad and he ended thereby saying that always “learn enjoy... and learn”.
Mr. Elangovan discussed about the problems which were faced by the unemployed. He told that if anyone has to show up their talent or skills or want to get any job, the best way is to join in an internship.
There upon the stage was handed over to the Mr. Nivas who mesmerizingly orated the need & benefits of internships.
It was followed by a group photo with the participants and then with the members of IEEE Student Branch Stahyabama University.
Prior to it a 15 minute refreshment break was provided. The sessions were divided into four halfs
- Internship:Insights & Recommendations.
- Interview &skills Preparation.
- Internship Platform & How to apply?
- Trends and technologies.
- Resume preparation-Hands on.
After a rejuvenating tea break, the first speaker Mr. Ashwin Shankar-GBG Manager explained about the Internships: Insights & Recommendations.
His way of speaking to the students had attracted many of them and we enjoyed his session, it was a kind of interactive section where he highlighted about the industrial exposure and technical skills that a student need to get a internship. He sermonized about the opportunities to learn, network, evaluate explore, shine, intern and success. lastly he quoted"Ask Questions ,Not Favours".His session lasted an hour.
Before leaving the stage he was honoured by Mr. Nivas.
Interview & Skills preparation
There upon the second speaker of the day was ,Solarillion Foundation who started about 11:00am.
He expressed his views on interview and skill preparation.
Preparation. The session was totally interactive and many enjoyed his session.he briefed regarding his company how they select students for internships and emphasized that a good resume was key to internship Before he ended his session he said one mantra “play to your strength not to others expectation”.

This session was conducted by Mr. Nivas Ravichandran from 11.45 on-wards where in he orated how IEEE helps student to get internship for free. He mentioned about a website : http://www.twenty19.com/
It was followed by a lunch break.
Trends and technologies-fireside chat
The most interactive session of the day that was undertaken by Surendranath Reddy,CEO REDD Robotics & Prof. AN Parameswaran, Industrial Exposure head SRM university.
They mingled with the students by clarifying their doubts. They briefed the participants both the academical and practical aspects while searching for an Internship in a motivating way.
